When it comes to caring for your own mental health, here are some good places to start…

Diet – The food you eat has a direct impact on your mood. We all know that if we have a lot of sugar, we get a burst of energy followed by a crash. So, look into foods that have slower release energy to keep you going throughout the day. It is important to be aware of the connection between the gut and the brain and include the vitamins in your diet that contribute to the functioning of the brain.

Mindfulness – A lot of mental health problems are worsened by excessive worry and dwelling on things from the past or in a possible future scenario. Mindfulness teaches your brain to focus on the present moment, and by practising it daily you can feel more positive and more grounded.

Exercise – When we exercise, we don’t only help our bodies but also our brains. Exercising releases many positive chemicals in the brain that boost your mood.
