Cleaning your outdoor space can feel like a massive undertaking. Outdoor furniture and accessories are dirt magnets, and harsh weather can leave pieces looking a little worse for the wear. With a bit of elbow grease and a few useful tips, however, your outdoor space will look spotless in no time.
Remove Debris
When it’s time to clean youroutdoor furniture, the first step in the process is to remove all loose debris. Leaves and other loose materials tend to collect on chairs and tables. Remove all signs of debris with a cloth or brush. For furniture made of metal or plastic, blast it with a garden hose after you’ve given it an initial scrub to get rid of any remaining rubbish.
Cleaning Fabric
If your outdoor furniture is equipped with pillows, seat covers, or stretched fabric, you may have found that they get dirty quickly. To get stains and visible dirt out of outdoor fabric, try using a solution of warm water and dish soap. Whatever the fabric is made from, this solution will get them clean without damaging the fabric. Also make sure to check the furniture for manufacturer’s cleaning instruction. The instructions may recommend that you remove the fabric and wash it in a washing machine. After you’ve washed the fabric, prevent stains from forming in the future by applying a water-repellant fabric protection solution.
Plastic Furniture
Outdoor furniture made of plastic tends to be the easiest to clean. To get rid of dirt and debris, simply wet the furniture using your garden house and clean it with an all-purpose cleaner. Wipe it free of dirt with a large sponge, and then let it air dry.
Wood Furniture
The best way to clean your wood furniture is with a gentle oil soap. This will remove the dirt without damaging the wood. If you don’t clean wood furniture frequently enough, it can develop dirty build-up in cracks and crevices. If your wood furniture has difficult to remove grime, try using an old toothbrush.
Getting Rid of Mildew
If your outdoor furniture has developed mold or mildew, don’t fret. With a little bit of effort, you can remove mold and mildew from most pieces of furniture. To do so, start by thoroughly scrubbing the furniture. Take a brush to the areas with the most persistent mold. Then use white vinegar or diluted bleach to get rid of any lingering areas of mold. Be careful with diluted bleach, however, as it can lead to unwanted discoloration.
